Volunteer Opportunities

Rest. Reconnect. Regenerate. Spend time with this land.

We welcome you to accompany the ecosystems on MTSO’s campus, connecting with land and people who share values of caring for Earth and one another.

The campus is a “third space” in the community, inviting collaborative agency and cultivating conditions for a just, sustainable and generative world.

Volunteers have an impact by growing food for people facing food scarcity, creating a Children's Garden as a nurturing learning environment, restoring woodlands by removing invasive species, and more.

Here's how to get involved.

Attend a volunteer event

Come garden during our weekly open volunteer hours and see if Seminary Hill Farm is a place that calls you.

  • Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon
  • Thursday evenings, 6 to 8 p.m.

Register through the POINT app or Connections Volunteer Center or simply come to the orange barn. First time visitors are asked to complete a waiver. Children are welcome with their parents.

Become an ongoing volunteer

While volunteers help with a variety of farm and ecology endeavors, we are currently looking for people interested in the following roles. Reach out to Laura Ann Bergman at seminaryhillfarm@mtso.edu to learn more.

Children's Garden Tender

The Children's Garden is a gathering and learning space for all. This 90-foot-diameter garden is a creative space. Volunteers are invited to fully participate in the garden's continual evolution. Training and support are provided by the farm team.

  • Time commitment: Two hours a week, May–October
  • Time frame: Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon, or Thursday evenings, 6 to 8 p.m.

Community Greens Gardener

Community Greens is a 0.25-acre field where we cultivate fresh vegetables for two food pantries that serve Delaware and Franklin counties. The crops have been selected by our pantry partners to fill gaps in their current supplies.

Gardeners are wanted to help with planting, cultivating, mulching and harvesting. No prior gardening experience is required. Training and support are provided by the farm team.

  • Time commitment: Two hours a week, May–October
  • Time frame: Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon, or Thursday evenings, 6 to 8 p.m.

Food Forest Steward

If edible landscapes and native plants are your passion, consider volunteering as a Food Forest Steward. The food forest was established with trees and brambles in early 2026. The next phase of development is planning and establishing herbaceous perennials that provide nourishment for pollinators and people.

Volunteers are invited to help with care of the food forest and help design and establish the second phase.

  • Time commitment: Two hours a week, May–October
  • Time frame: Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon, or Thursday evenings, 6 to 8 p.m.

Flower Farmer

Do you enjoy watching flowers bloom? Seminary Hill Farm grows zinnias, snapdragons, dahlias, strawflowers, cosmos, celosias, sunflowers and more. The flowers are offered to area congregations to decorate their sancturaries, provided to our Community Supported Agriculture members, and used for seminary events.

Flower farmers are invited to help weed, water and deadhead flowers, and to help evolve a flower cropping plan that includes perennials and natives. Training and support are provided by the farm team.

  • Time commitment: Two hours a week, May–October
  • Time frame: Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon, or Thursday evenings, 6 to 8 p.m.

Lawn Specialist

Do you get satisfaction from taming lawns? We are seeking a volunteer who enjoys mowing and clipping to help maintain grassy areas around the Children's Garden and Community Greens field.

Equipment is provided.

  • Time commitment: Two hours a week, May–October
  • Time frame: A time of your choosing, Monday–Friday
