Sustainable Farm Apprentice Program Columbus

Seminary Hill Farm is a Certified Organic farm located in the greater Columbus, Ohio area on the campus of the Methodist Theological School in Ohio.  Founded on biointensive, sustainable agriculture methods that build the soil and preserve the integrity of the landscape, our market farm provides fresh, high-quality produce for our Seminary Hill Farm Kitchen, our three season community supported agriculture (CSA) program, and local farmers markets.  By using season extension techniques, our team is able to grow food all year long and would like to invite those that are interested to participate in our apprentice program.  Through our apprentice program, you will develop a greater understanding of how a sustainable agriculture system works and be help manage and cultivate vegetable production in two passive solar hoop houses, thirteen caterpillar tunnels and ten acres of field production.  

Apprentices will participate in the daily responsibilities of managing a small farm including but not limited to:
•    Weeding
•    Harvesting
•    Washing/Packing
•    Seeding
•    Watering
•    Tractor Work
•    Drip Irrigation
•    Transplanting  
•    CSA Distribution
•    Farmers Market

Basic Qualifications:
•    High school education, GED, or equivalent work experience.
•    Must be at least 18 years of age.
•    Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well with others.
•    Ability to receive and follow instructions.
•    Mindful of the safety of self and others.  

Apprentices will receive a weekly stipend, housing, food during regular dining hours and a bonus which accrues over the course of the season.

Physical Requirements:
Apprentices can expect to work 40-50 hours per week with some weekends and evening hours required.
These apprenticeships require an individual to be able to work long days, lift 50+lbs. and be able to kneel, bend, and walk for extended periods of time.
